The Starkey Zon 7 is a digital open ear hearing aid utilizing receiver in the canal (RIC) sound delivery. Starkey’s proprietary advanced sound processing technology, BluWave SP, is offered in all three levels of the Zon open ear hearing aids.
Zon 7 leads the hearing aid industry in feedback reduction technology. BluWave SP demonstrates feedback cancellation beyond the capabilities of previous technologies. This means the Starkey Zon 7 can offer more stable gain in high frequencies (above 1000 Hz) commonly associated with noise damaged hearing loss.
-
- Digital Speech Detection (DSD) gives Zon 7 wearers an advanced directional microphone system designed to automatically detect speech in difficult sound environments.
- BluWave SP also gives wearers of Zon 7 automatic detection of the telephone and seamless switching to a telephone mode optimized for clarity of telephone conversations.

Digital
The two most common technologies used in hearing aids are analog and digital. Digital is newer and considered to be much more flexible, capable of doing more operations, and the only technology used in modern hearing aids. |

Channels
Human speech ranges in frequencies roughly from 250 to 6000 Hz. Hearing aids are built so that this group of frequencies (250 to 6000 Hz) is divided into smaller groups, called bands or channels. |

Memories
Multiple memory settings can be programmed into the aid to give the user the ability to cope with changing sound and noise environments with the push of a button. |

Volume Control
Volume control is generally considered to be a manual adjustment that the user can control. All hearing aids have automatic gain control designed to make soft sounds audible and loud sounds tolerable. This is done automatically within limits programmed into the device. |

On-Board Control Type
Controls on hearing aids usually have one or more of: 1. A momentary button used to change from one memory to the next 2. A button used to increase the level of volume 3. A rocker switch where pushing on one end does one function while the other end does another function 4. A wheel that will control volume |

Remote Control Available
Remote controls for hearing aids are small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket. A remote control will enable more functions than can be put on a hearing aid itself. |

Directional Microphones
Microphones are the electronic component that picks up sound. Microphones are very small and can be made to pick up more sound in one direction than all others. This is called a directional microphone. |

Noise Reduction
Technology to separate voices from other sounds is continuously being improved. Each manufacturer has a patented process and trademarked name for noise reduction. |

|
Sudden Noise Protection
This feature helps make hearing aids acoustically comfortable by ramping up sudden loud noises, such as a dropped dish. |
No |
|
Wind Noise Protection
Wind noise is an important feature for those that spend time in the outdoors by reducing the roar of wind across the microphone. This feature is improving but is not effective in gusty wind conditions. |

Telecoil
Telecoils help with telephones that are rated hearing aid compatible. |

|
Aid-to-Aid Communication
Communication from one hearing aid to the other is a very low strength signal designed to keep both hearing aids operating in the same mode at the same volume. |

|
Bluetooth Capable
Being able to couple your hearing aids with a BlueTooth-enabled device, such as a cell phone, allows phone conversations to be heard through your hearing aids. |
No |

Direct Audio Input (DAI)
DAI is only on Large and Full Size hearing aids due to the need for terminals on the outside of the case. Using DAI allows other devices to connect directly to the hearing aids and input their audio signal. |

Features
Starkey’s proprietary BluWave Sound Processing technology used in Zon includes the following features:
Active Feedback Intercept (AFI) Detecting and canceling acoustic feedback adding as much as 20 db of high frequency gain over previous feedback cancellation systems.
Directional Speech Detector (DSD) Directional microphone systems are thought to be the hearing aid industry’s best tool for helping people with hearing loss cope with understanding speech in noisy environments. BluWave SP along with a very low noise, directional microphone give Zon open ear hearing aid wearers exceptional improvement in word recognition when in noise.
Acoustic Signature As wearers move among changing sound environment such as crowd noise, wind noise, mechanical noise Zon technology adapts and optimizes sound. BluWave SP characterizes incoming sounds by frequency, timing, and intensity. Once a noise environment is characterized the Acoustic Signature technology chooses and applies the optimum environmental program.
Memory Button Zon features an ergonomically shaped button to manually switch between environmental programs. Easy to use for people with limited dexterity.
Voice Indicators Zon 7 will tell you by voice the status of the hearing aid for low battery, memory, and telephone mode. Voices are available in male or female in a variety of languages.
Automatic Telephone Response Zon detects when you are using an ordinary phone and switches in to a program that optimizes telephone conversation.
Battery Zon uses a long life 312 battery.
Precise Review
Starkey Zon is a digital open ear hearing aid suitable for mild to moderately severe hearing loss.
Zon is a small, ergonomically shaped BTE (Behind-The-Ear) digital hearing aid that is well designed physically, comfortable while being worn on the ear, and has an attractive shape with good color choices.
Sound is produced in the ear canal by a very small electronic component on the end of a small, contoured tube. The tube fits between the devise and the ear canal and is virtually invisible when worn. Zon 7, Zon 5, and Zon 3 are all the same size physically and all use a 312 battery for extended battery life (about 10 days).
